December Athlete Spotlight!
Congrats Kari D.!!!
This bride-to-be kicks butt every time she comes to the gym. Whether it’s 6am or 6pm, Kari brings lots of enthusiasm and drive to every workout. Even after a few bumps and bruises, she never backs down from a challenge. Find out more about Kari…
What are your favorite hobbies, talents, skills outside of CrossFit?
I love spending time with family/friends/my dog, riding my horse, reading a good book or watching a good movie.
What recent adventure are you planning?
My upcoming wedding! Will and I get married 1/9/16.
What is your occupation?
I’m a registered nurse in the Birthing Center at Meriter Hospital.
What is your athletic background?
I always grew up doing recreational sports (softball, volleyball), but I got serious about working out during my senior year of high school. In college, I ran a lot and even finished a half marathon. I’ve dabbled in a lot of different exercise types – running, yoga, cycling, interval training, body pump/combat, etc.
What is your favorite lift?
Cleans, or back squats.
What is your least favorite lift?
Heavy overhead squats – just because they hurt my wrists and I think I’m still nervous to have a lot of weight over my head.
What is your favorite paleo meal/snack?
Sweet potatoes! Or roasted brussel sprouts/butternut squash/cauliflower.
What is your favorite cheat Food(s)?
Pizza or fro-yo or nachos!
What would your perfect WOD look like?
X Rounds, or AMRAP x minutes: 200m run, pull ups and a lift of some sort
What results have you seen so far in coming to CFC?
I have noticed a lot more muscle definition and my overall strength/endurance has definitely increased. When I got more serious about eating better, I lost about 10lbs, too. None of my pants fit anymore!
What was you main reason for joining CFC?
I had been wanting to try this Cross Fit thing for a while but didn’t want to go on my own. Will agreed to start with me after I found the Groupon. I hadn’t been seeing much change in my current work out routine and wanted to try something new.
Do you have any special or successful CrossFit Connex memories/moments?
I love the feeling of pride every time I get PR, or even when I can tell I improve my form on lifts. It’s so exciting! The “Nutrition challenge” WOD was fun too – I think I cut 3 or 4 minutes off my time (and no box bite!)!
What advice would you give to a newbie or someone just joining CrossFit Connex?
Stick with it! You get stronger and it gets more fun!
