What are your favorite hobbies, talents, skills outside of CrossFit?
What does ‘outside of CrossFit’ mean?? In general though, I like running and being outside with my dogs, catching up with friends and playing the piano.
What motto or phrase do you live by?
“And though she be but little, she is fierce” -Shakespeare; “What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday”
What is something we might not know about you?
I am an older sister of three siblings and was born in California
What is your favorite music to listen to while WODing?
Country! And pop remixes.
What recent adventure are you planning?
I am graduating in the spring, so I guess my whole life adventure really!
Do any of your family members CrossFit? If so, where?
My mother was hooked for a month or two last year when she was in Qatar. She was the one to recommend CF to me. Everyone else in my family is/was relatively athletic.
What is your occupation?
I am a full-time student studying Agricultural Engineering and also work for the Environmental Engineering Dept. I am also a mom of two puppies…
What is your athletic background?
I was a coxswain (the little person that yells and steers the rowing boat) for four years in high school and two years for UW on the lightweight team. After quitting to focus on my degree (and you know, sleep) I was kind of lost as to how I was going to stay active. I have always been involved in sports and always highly motivated to improve my athletic abilities.
How long have you been with CrossFit Connex?
I started mid July last year!
What is your favorite WOD?
Anything with front squats, push ups (including HS), and pull-ups/C2B/T2B
What is your least favorite WOD?
Fight Gone Bad, Nancy, 15.5 (27-21-15-9 row for cal, Thrusters @ 95/65)
What is your favorite lift?

What is your favorite paleo meal/snack?
Fruit and granola (but I usually go non-paleo and mix them in greek yogurt) and most anything with chicken (especially soups)
What is your favorite cheat Food(s)?
Cheese curds, cheesecake and pizza
What would your perfect WOD look like?
5 rounds for time:
> 6 HSPU
> 8 FS
> 10 Chest to Bar
> 12 ab mat sit-ups
What is one thing you have done at CFC that you never thought you would do?
String muscle ups together, being terrified of the weight on a barbell and then lifting it over my head….
What motivates you during a CrossFit WOD?
Above all, it’s the atmosphere; if I look around me and see everyone pushing their hardest I am so eager and motivated! I remember certain WODs based on others motivations like yesterday, when Alison stepped closer to me (struggling!) mid-WOD and said, “I’m gonna be right next to you, we’re gonna do this!!” Such a huge boost of confidence when it was low and that support was everything.
Also, certain phrases like:
I didn’t work my butt off yesterday, last week, or the past year to give up or falter now.
My body won’t go where my mind doesn’t push it
What do you eat pre/post WOD?
preWOD: protein bars and electrolyte drinks
postWOD: recovery/protein shakes and CARBS
What results have you seen so far in coming to CFC?
I can workout for 20 minutes and not feel out of breath, my stamina is more than I ever thought it would be and I can’t wait to feel even stronger as I continue with CF. I can eat WAY more than a) I thought possible and b) I thought I would ever need to to replenish my body. There are certain goats/weaknesses I have that I am getting better at, but WAY more importantly, I am less scared of those lifts/movements. I think the mental struggle when faced with a challenge is harder to overcome than the challenge itself, at least for me.
What was your main reason for joining CFC?
I needed a purpose to my workout routine. I needed to feel that when I worked my butt off there was a reason and there would be results. Also: life was boring, I didn’t feel strong, I needed more friends, I liked to exercise, the list goes on 🙂
Give us some insight as to your thoughts after your first workout at CrossFit Connex?
Oh my God everything hurts. This is not normal….where do I sign up.
Tell us a little about then VS now in regard to your performances as a CrossFit athlete
I am able to shake things off a lot better now. If a WOD doesn’t go as planned I get less flustered/frustrated and can make a new game plan. I am also (usually) able to keep my wits about me after I fail a lift. Something that is necessary if you want to go back and make the lift!
Do you have any special or successful CrossFit Connex memories/moments?
I used to be barely able to do an OHS at a light weight when tired, something I learned in the middle of a competition. Doing my first WOD at that exact weight with way more reps was amazing. A feeling of accomplishment I won’t forget.
What advice would you give to a newbie or someone just joining CrossFit Connex?
Everyone knows what it’s like to start, so don’t be intimidated or hesitant to jump right in! No one cares what is on your barbell or how many pushups you can do. It’s all about working hard and doing so together.
What sort of life changes have you experienced because of CrossFit that you didn’t expect?
Body awareness! I immediately notice if I didn’t eat well or drink enough water that day. I also just feel more comfortable in my own skin. Nothing feels better than feeling strong. I also like when people ask if I need help lifting things and I can say no 🙂
What does CrossFit mean to you?
For me it’s a lifestyle. On days I can’t WOD because of an injury or I had to work late or whatever the unplanned reason is, I am NOT happy. Having a place to consistently go to workout, get stronger, de-stress, socialize, etc means so much.
