So the CrossFit Open is merely weeks away! The open is an incredibly exciting time to be a CrossFitter. For those of you who are new to CrossFit, the Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games. The Open is the online portion of the competition that takes place at every CrossFit affiliate across the globe. Hundreds of thousands of athletes of all levels and ages will participate in this online competition. Every week for five weeks, CF HQ will release a WOD. Athletes around the world will do this WOD and report scores through the online system. The top 48 men and top 48 women within each region go on to compete against each other at the CrossFit Regionals. The top 3 women and top 3 men from each region are then invited to compete in the CrossFit Games.
What does all this mean for you? The CF Open is a great way to get involved in the CrossFit world outside of Connex . Being part of the open is truly about being part of CF, not just Connex. The Open provides every athlete with an opportunity to compete, put their fitness to the test, and push their bodies well past anything they thought possible.
If you are still looking for some reasons why you should register for the open here are a few below:
1) Community – There’s nothing quite like working towards a common goal to bring people together. One of the major reasons CrossFit is such a success is because people love the community it creates. Being part of the Open creates an even greater sense of community here at Connex and it is an fun and motivating thing to be apart of.
2) Focus – Having a competition on the horizon will give you reason to to stay dedicated to your training. It’s useful to have a reason to train in terms of some personal goal. Competing helps bring focus and determination to your training.
3) Being part of something bigger – Last year some 75,000 people from every possible demographic competed in the games, this year there’ll be even more. The open is not just about creating a community within Connex, but about brining the entire CrossFit community together.
4) Mental Growth – These WODs will likely put you outside of your comfort zone. This is a good thing! It is not until we leave our comfort zone that growth is made. Push yourself through these five weeks of competition and you will finish the Open marveled at your own ability to overcome challenges.
