Ironman Cheering Station- Sunday, September 9

On Sunday, September 9th the City of Madison will be hosting an Ironman Triathlon. This event is one of the most grueling endurance races and we are so fortunate to have it hosted in our own backyard.  An Ironman race consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run.

This year the Ironman bike course travels on Badger road, directly in front of the box!  The Ironmen and Ironwomen will pass our front door at approximately mile 4 and mile 98 of their bike ride.  We would love to invite all Connex athletes, friends and family to come cheer for these courageous individuals as they head out/home for/from one of the most grueling Ironman bike courses.  Posters, poster making supplies, noise makers and other cheering necessities will be provided.  We encourage all Connex peeps to show their Connex pride on that day by wearing their Connex T-shirt or tank top.

The cheering station will be active from approximately 7:30- 10:30 am and will meet up again from approximately 2:00-5:00 pm.  These times will allow us to cheer on the bulk of the athletes.  The pros will be on the earlier side, if not before these times.  To give you an idea of when people will pass our door, the swim cut off is at 9:20 and the bike cut off is at 5:30 pm.

These athletes have spent countless hours for the last nine months and possibly even longer preparing for this single day.  They have poured their heart and soul into getting ready for this event and it would be so great if Connex  was there to represent and cheer out on the course.  Endurance athlete or not you will be impressed and moved by being their to spectate and support on this day.

For those of you who are interested in more then the bike, the swim takes place in front of the Manona Terrace.  The Pros will begin at 6:50 am, followed by the age groupers at 7:00 am.  It will be astonishing to see so many people in the water, each one fighting for a place in the pack.

If you decided to come to the afternoon cheering time, I would encourage you to make your way to the run course. after the bikers have completed their ride.  These athletes will appreciate all the motivation and encouragement they can get on this day!
