Athlete of the Month!

We are kicking off May with an exciting new Connex tradition.  Every month we will honor one athlete and recognize them as athlete of the month.  This athlete is one who the coaches agree is an individual who gives his/her all every WOD.  Who is committed to CrossFit and to reaching their goals as well as helping those around them become the strongest CFer they can be!

Andy W is the May Member of the month!

What are your favorite hobbies, talents, skills outside of CrossFit?
I am a fairly stereotypical computer nerd.  I write computer programs, read sci-fi and fantasy novels, and help Andrea with her 3d computer graphics business.

What is your athletic background?
In high school, I ran track and cross-country, running distances from 400 meters up to 5k.  In college, I participated in martial arts, earning my 1st degree black belts in both Taekwondo and Hapkido.  After college, I played soccer in Madison for 5 years, and now I CrossFit!

How long have you been with CrossFit Connex?
6 months.

What is your favorite paleo meal/snack?
Giant portabello mushrooms stuffed with ground beef and italian sausage.

What is your favorite cheat Food(s)?
Applebees boneless wings

What was you main reason for joining CFC?
I started lifting weights to stay in shape near the end of college, but got out of the habit after moving to Madison.  While on vacation in Florida last year, I saw the CrossFit Games on tv, and realized that it was a great way to get back into weightlifting without the workouts feeling monotonous and boring.

What advice would you give to a newbie or someone just joining CrossFit Connex?
Stick with it.  The first few workouts will seem horrible, but the benefits of sticking with it are definitely worth the effort.
